The Electribe series flexibly responds to the needs of modern dance music and changes the style of its users. Approximately ten years since the Electribe MX was first introduced in 2003, you can now try a long-awaited new model that has been designed to make it as easy as possible for novice users to use, while providing more options for more experienced users.
The Electribe is ideal for both music production and live performance
The new Electribe - even more musical styles
Electribe uses KORG's most advanced technology, known from the successful KingKORG, Kaossilator, Kaoss Pad and Taktile models. A total of 200 preset patterns include House and Techno, but also modern dance styles such as Trap or EDM. Another major improvement is the support for polyphonic playback, which is essential for complex music genres such as House.
Improved step sequencer
With 16 pads located on the front panel, you can create patterns in a completely intuitive way. These pads can be used either as a keyboard to record phrases in real time or, alternatively, to program individual notes step by step. You can then use the created pads in various ways, for example by applying the "step jump" function, known from the volca series, or by changing the "last step" parameter to change the length of the individual parts, etc..
The "motion sequence" function is also available when creating paterns, allowing you to record the movement of buttons and other controls.
Either drums or synths can be assigned to each of the 16 parts (i.e. 16 pads). So if you want to create a truly complex drum set, you can assign different drum sounds to all 16 parts.
Intuitive beat making with trigger pads and touchpad
From the Kaossilator series, the well-known "touch scale" function allows anyone to play without fake notes, just by moving a finger over the touchpad. In addition, the trigger pads, which have proven their worth with the Taktile, are also included for quick and easy creation of musical phrases. In addition, these trigger pads can also be used to create percussion. Dynamics can also be switched on for these trigger pads.
Fast synth engine
A synthesizer engine has been designed for Electribe that maximizes both the creative possibilities in sound creation and the overall speed of music production.
A total of 409 oscillator types include analog modulation and PCM. Meanwhile, the analog modelling engine offers a diverse range of possibilities, from basic sound curves to complex combinations such as unison, ring modulation or cross modulation. The PCM sound engine contains mainly rhythmic sounds, but also multisamples for keyboards. (Some are the results of collaborations with Sample Magic, Loopmasters and Prime Loops).
The filters, which are the basis of sound creation and editing, were taken directly from the KingKORG model. In doing so, they also offer algorithms that simulate some standard synths, so if you want to use "that sound" from a particular recording, sometimes you just need to select the appropriate filter type.
The filters can also be used to modify drums, which can be very varied in sound.
Using modulation to create sounds can be complicated, but we've simplified it as much as possible by reducing it to three basic parameters: you just select a preset template that determines the type of effect and its target, and then you just adjust the speed and range of the effect as needed.
Even more room for your creativity: pattern effects and grooves
The new electribe offers effects such as compression and overdrive for each part, so you have complete control over every detail of the sounds used in each genre. In addition, you can also apply a groove to each of the parts, simply by selecting from the preset patterns.
New features for live performances: master effects, Pattern sets, Sync in/out
Master effects can be controlled from the touchpad (in a similar way to the Kaoss Pad), and include not only spatial effects to change the overall acoustics of the sound, but also effects that dynamically and significantly change the resulting sound - such as the "Vinyl Break" effect, taken from the Kaoss Pad series, or the brand new "Seq Reverse" and "Odd Stepper" effects that change the playback order of the sequencer. These effects will be especially appreciated during live performances, when they open up entirely new possibilities for complex sound work.
You'll also find a "pattern set" function that lets you switch patterns by pressing the trigger pads, or an "event recording" function that records the switching. In addition to the MIDI IN/OUT, there is also a "Sync IN/OUT" which is used to quickly synchronise your playing with other Volca, Monotribe or MS-20 mini series devices. The new Electribe can be powered by six AA batteries, so you can easily take it anywhere.
Co-operate with Ableton Live
Now you can also use the well-known music app Ableton Live to realise your musical ideas, and the new Electribe can work with it, so you can take advantage of all the advantages of software and hardware music equipment. Specifically, Electribe can save and export patches in Ableton Live format, including individual patches and sets, which are then stored within the Ableton Live Set. Take advantage of Ableton Live's powerful editing facilities to edit, record, arrange and mix your new music. KORG Electribe comes with a license for Ableton Live Lite.
