Basic controls determine output volume, dry/wet signal ratio, overdrive level and tone character/colour (a three-band EQ complemented by a Freq control that determines the operating bandwidth of the Middle knob from 160 Hz to 1000 Hz). Thanks to the frequency bandwidth, you can use the preamp/DI box with 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-string basses. Mono input/output and XLR output are complemented by a Through jack (for when you need to output both dry and wet signals from the box), an Aux In input for external audio sources, a headphone output, and a Micro B USB for connecting the box to editing software on your PC/Mac.
In the editing software you can record your own IR and manage other settings, switch between two bass models and edit their settings, work with eight cabinet simulations (four factory, four user) and choose from three USB audio streaming modes (Normal, Dry Out, Reamp). Use the two switches to enable/disable IR cabinet simulation separately for DI output and 6.3 mm mono jack output. MLD Bass Preamp + DI also allows recording to a computer without the need for an audio interface/driver (even so, the manufacturer recommends downloading and installing their driver).
The relatively new NUX brand offers a wide range of analogue and digital products for musicians (guitar effects and multi-effects, amplifiers and accessories).
