The TP-7 operates in three basic modes - Memo for instantly recording your ideas using the eponymous controller, Recordings for all other recordings on the device and Library for recording and then playback of external content. The core element of the TP-7 is the tape mechanism, a ball-bearing DC motor with a sensitive sensor that also serves to navigate menus and control functions like Pause. A dial on the left side allows you to quickly play audio in either direction. The Mode dial is located below it, while the Memo and Navigation buttons are located on the other side. The ergonomic placement of the dials makes it easy to operate the recorder with one hand.
Record using the internal microphone or use any of the three stereo jacks to connect external microphones, headphones, studio monitors and other audio devices such as the TX-6 or OP-1. Via USB-C, the TP-7 can be used as a multi-channel interface (interfacing with the TX-6 offers six-track recording), midi controller or for data transfer. Wireless connectivity options include MFi and ble. A 6.35mm/3.5mm jack adapter is included. Upon release, you'll also have a voice-to-text app with Whisper AI to convert spoken word to text.
The device is powered via a USB-C port. The package includes a user manual, 6.35 mm jack adapter, USB-C cable and a plastic cover.
The TP-7 is also partly a mechanical device that makes a sound caused by moving parts inside the bearing mechanism, which makes it easier to turn the wheel. If this characteristic sound is unwanted on your recordings, you can turn off the motor in the menu: (menu>motor>spin the wheel>X)
