The Custom 24 Piezo Cobalt Smokeburst model offers a combination of a maple top and an ergonomically shaped mahogany body with the typical PRS double cutaway. Glued to the mahogany neck with Pattern Thin profile is a rosewood fingerboard fitted with deluxe mother-of-pearl position markers in the shape of bird silhouettes.
The specific feature of this instrument is the use of both classic magnetic pickups (humbuckers) and an under-coil piezo pickup. For this reason, the guitar has two inputs for connection to acoustic and electric guitars, or to a mixer.
A pair of 85/15 humbuckers, specially designed by company founder Paul Reed Smith himself, offer extended response in both high and low frequencies in addition to remarkable transparency. The sound settings can be adjusted via the volume potentiometer, tone diaphragm and five-position pickup switch, which offers split-coil humbucker (coil-split) configurations at positions 2 and 4 - specifically, a combination of a coil humbucker and neck single-coil at position 2 and a pure single-coil (parallel) connection at position 4.
LR Baggs' electronics with an under-coil piezo pickup expand the instrument's palette of sounds to include acoustic guitar tones, which you can choose between with a three-position switch. A potentiometer with Blend function can combine the sound of humbuckers with the piezo pickup and adjust their ratio in the output signal.
Also worth mentioning is the detailed hardware, headed by the Gen III tremolo system. All the grooves and screw holes are shaped to ensure maximum contact of the individual components, or the optimum string break angle, so that even the most subtle vibrations are transmitted to the body. The stones are fixed against sideways movement, and the exact position of the vibrato lever can be adjusted with a built-in screw. The nickel hardware is complemented by precision Phase III Locking tuners with a mechanism that prevents unwanted string movement.
The guitar comes in a carrying case.
Paul Reed Smith's PRS guitars are considered some of the most versatile and reliable instruments ever made. Thanks to their great sound and playing comfort, they are popular with Carlos Santana and Mark Tremonti, for example. In addition to the tried-and-tested classics, the brand also offers left-handed models, seven-string, baritone and semi-hollowbody guitars, and signature models from famous guitarists.
