The RevivalDrive Compact in a compact "pedalboard friendly" format maximizes the features of the much larger, and more complex in terms of controls, RevivalDrive pedal. If you are not a tweaker, you will certainly welcome the services of this handy pedal. Using purely analogue components, it replicates all levels of tube circuits, i.e. Class A preamp, phase inverter, push-pull end stage, rectifier or built-in reactive load, i.e. the pedal models the interaction between the tube amp and the speaker. The term "amp in a box" thus takes on a whole new dimension - thanks to the wide range of Drive/EQ and Post EQ section settings, the pedal gets both pure British (Marshall, Vox) and American (Fender) sounds indistinguishable from the original.
Now let's explain how the individual controls work. By adjusting the GAIN and OUTPUT potentiometers you determine the amount of distortion (overdrive) of the sound and the strength of the output signal, by turning the BLEND knob you determine the dry/wet ratio of the signal, i.e. 100% overdrive or 100% clean boost. The HIGHS and LOWS potentiometers shape the sound character in the bass and mid/high frequencies, adjusting them at the same time to switch between Fender and Marshall style preamp sounds. The remaining drive/EQ knob of the MORE/PRES section offers a dual function, where setting it from the neutral position (12 o'clock) to the right works like a classic Marshall presence pot, setting it to the left works with negative feedback - you get more overdrive/distortion (faster onset of distortion).
The three-position Post EQ section switch and the ADJ (adjust) knob solve the final problem when you decide to use the pedal with a clean/distorted instrument sound, with different brands/types of amps that have a different sonic character, or do without the classic guitar stack altogether. You can easily solve the problem of too bright or dark sound of the machine (the pedal also offers a Flat Response setting).
The pedal works in buffered bypass mode. The power supply is a 9V DC center negative adapter.
The English brand Origin Effects represents another interesting concept in the field of contemporary manufacturers of hand made pedal effects. Unlike many other products, Origin Effects pedal effects do not refer to the past and boutique design, but reflect the needs of contemporary musicians in terms of functionality and durability. Each product undergoes a complex process (from hand soldering and assembling the individual components, calibration with an audio analyzer, fitting them into a durable brushed steel chassis, testing the final product with a real instrument, i.e. guitar or bass, to an output check confirmed by a handwritten serial number on the box). You can therefore be sure that you will only receive a product that meets the brand's high standards.
