GIBSON Peter Frampton "Phenix" Inspired Les Paul Custom VOS Ebony

The "Phenix" Les Paul Custom electric guitar that is heard on, and on the cover of, the famous recording "Frampton Comes Alive!" Peter Frampton's guitar was considered lost/destroyed for many years after a plane crash in 1980 before it rose, like the Phoenix from the ashes, and returned to its owner thirty years later. Or rather, it was returned, not to be too fanciful. In any case, the story is interesting enough to prompt the good folks at the Gibson Custom Shop to create a Peter Frampton "Phenix" Inspired Les Paul Custom VOS Ebony inspired by The "Phenix" Les Paul Custom.

The guitar features a chambered mahogany body (weight-relieved) with a solid mahogany top, gold-finished hardware, Grover tuning machines, Schaller rollers and three open-coil Custombucker humbuckers. The VOS finish gives the guitar the vintage look of the original without the scuffs and scratches that the original has after years of use. The guitar also offers custom wiring/circuitry, where a three-position switch toggles between the tailpiece and neck humbuckers, similar to the H-H models, and both pickups share volume and tone controls. A second set of volume and tone controls are soldered to the middle humbucker.
