The Opava brand Schick has been operating since 1999 and was founded by Jan Bradáč and Vladimír Třicátný. The latter had already built an electric double bass for Petr Vavřík from Buta before the brand was founded, and this bass is clearly inspired by the electric double bass.
The 1999 instrument was originally a fretless with active electronics. In its lifetime it has undergone a conversion from an electric bass to a fretless bass with passive electronics and a massive pickup system (4 single JB pickups under a wooden cover). The control is now designed with two volumes controlling always 2 pickups as humbuckers, both of them are switchable to singles. One of the potentiometers is disconnected as a remnant of the active electronics. The whole instrument is made of mahogany and has an ebony fingerboard.
Given the serial number 99B001, one can speculate that this is the brand's first bass. It is surprisingly an ergonomically well-designed instrument, as it does not weigh down on the head and is generally easy to hold. It impresses with a very thick, powerful bass sound with soft lows.
It is a used item in the sense of VAT (second hand). It is sold with a heavily padded case for easy carrying.
