MS From Dixie to Swing

After the end of the era of the great American big band orchestras in the 1950s, many excellent musicians found themselves out of work, so they took to playing "Dixieland" in New York clubs like Eddie Condon's and the Metropole. The result was the emergence of the style of Dixieland jazz covered in From Dixie to Swing. It contains eight pieces in music notation, with all trumpet soloists encouraged by the authors to create melodic lines to decorate and create a musical dialogue with the main melody rather than copy it - for Dixieland jazz is a freer form ideal for developing the ability to improvise.
