Jackson's history dates back to 1970, intersecting with the turbulent rise of hard music styles rooted in metal. Metal players immediately took to these instruments and to this day Jackson guitars are designed especially for them. Legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne) has a hand in this, as he and Jackson designers drew the Concorde guitar design on a paper napkin in the early 1980s, redefining the sound of the metal guitar forever.
This guitar is the signature model of Iron Maiden guitarist Adrien Smith and is a Stratocaster on steroids.
The Adrian Smith SDX is a model that has a lime wood body. The maple neck that is bolted to the body is perfect for fast playing. The maple fingerboard, which has a compound radius and flattens out towards the body, is also suited to this. There are 22 jumbo-sized frets. The gauge of the instrument is 648 mm and the width of the zero fret is 43 mm.
The strings are anchored in a double-lock Floyd Rose tremolo with two locks, on the other side they are mounted in Jackson precision tuning machines. Of course there is a lockable zero fret. No matter what happens on the fingerboard, this arrangement will ensure the guitar is in perfect tune. A single-layer pickguard protects the body from pick attacks.
The guitar is equipped with two single-coil pickups and a humbucker at the bridge. Switching between them can be done with a five-position switch, and volume and tone shutter potentiometers are used for further control.
