The design of the PRS Silver Sky electric guitar is the result of a close collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and blues-rock musician and Grammy Award winner John Mayer. It is an instrument based on his favourite elements of vintage guitars spiced with a modern aesthetic and fretwork.
The alder body of the Silver Sky Venetian Blue guitar is covered in gloss nitro lacquer. The shape of the maple neck is consistent with the 1963/64 designs. Specifically, guitars with rosewood fingerboards offer a subtly modified profile (635JM-R) that will make you feel more rounded. Position markers in the form of bird silhouettes make orientation on the rosewood fingerboard easier.
Three 635JM single-coil pickups give the guitar a round, full sound with beautifully singing highs. The character of the sound can be adjusted with two tone diaphragm potentiometers, a volume control and a five-position pickup switch.
Tuning stability is ensured by the strings' attachment to the lockable vintage-style mechanics and the steel tremolo enriched with PRS elements in the form of a tremolo lever and Gen III screws (knife-edge). Other specifics of the instrument include a headstock with PRS' trademark inverted design, a bone fretboard or a signed neck plate. The stylish finish is accentuated by a white pickguard.
