A three-piece maple neck is glued to the instrument's mahogany body. Twenty-four Extra Jumbo frets divide the "baked" jatoba fingerboard. Orientation is facilitated by mother-of-pearl position blocks. The strings are mounted in the company's tuning machines and in the aforementioned Floyd Rose tremolo. Stability of tuning when using the tremolo lever is guaranteed by the locks on the zero fret, which, like the body of the instrument and all hardware, are in a stylish black finish. Sound pickup is handled by a pair of ESP Designed passive humbuckers, whose coils can be unzipped if necessary using the push/pull switch on the volume potentiometer. This greatly expands the sonic possibilities of the instrument, and not only fans of uncompromising metal tones, but also lovers of the pleasant, tinkling sound of single-coil pickups will be pleased.
ESP has been manufacturing electric guitars since 1984 and its satisfied customers include Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, Ronnie Wood and Max Cavalera. Due to the popularity of these instruments, a subsidiary company, LTD, was created to offer popular models in an affordable option. However, even in the case of ESP-LTD guitars, great emphasis is placed on the quality of workmanship and fitted components.
