The Monologue's sound circuit is based on the popular Minilogue model, compared to which it is monophonic. The 2VCO, 1VCF, 1EG, 1VCA and 1LFO structure remains, as do the advanced sound waveform shaping options and sync/ring switch. However, the Monologue filters are bipolar, allowing for more aggressive transients. Whether you're creating a fat bass or aggressive Lead sound you'll also appreciate the new Drive circuit, which saturates the sound with added distortion with harmonies or LFOs that can be dialed up to incredible speeds.
The sixteen-step sequencer has also been improved. Sequences can be created both in real time with overdubbing and in steps - both using the keyboard and the sixteen buttons. Motion Sequence mode lets you record automation for up to four knobs, both sequential and different for each step. You can drop and transpose the sequence using the keyboard, and if you're creating bass lines, you can now set the appropriate portamento for each step.
There are 80 factory presets in Monologue, so great sounds are immediately within your reach even without a thorough knowledge of the principles of sound synthesis. Artists from around the world, including Aphex Twin, have contributed to the presets. 20 memory slots are available for storing your own sounds.
Other features of the Monologue include micro-tuning capability that lets you defy convention and scales (a favorite feature of Aphex Twin), an oscilloscope providing visual feedback, battery operation, MIDI and Audio sync, or 25 keys in the E to E range for easy playing with guitarists.
