The BB700 series electric basses continue the tradition of well-crafted instruments with a distinctive sound that has defined Yamaha's BB series for forty years. Their playing and sound characteristics are sure to appeal to players of all skill levels and styles.
These are electric basses of the classic Precision Bass concept. The laminated body of the instrument is composed of alder and middle maple veneer. This combination gives the bass a more penetrating sound in the midrange frequencies and a balanced vibration transfer between the body and neck. A five-piece maple and mahogany neck is attached to the body using six screws, and the stronger connection gives the instrument better sustain and resonance. The narrower neck profile offers better playability and feel than older BB models. The rosewood fingerboard is fitted with 21 frets, and orientation is facilitated by white position blocks.
The sound is handled by two active YDG custom pickups with Alnico magnets, i.e. a single-coil and a split-coil. Volume potentiometers, balance control and three-band equalizer are used for sound corrections. The sonic versatility of the instrument is enhanced by a two-position switch that selects between active and passive electronics. The vintage fingerboard offers a string attachment through the body or a traditional string attachment in the strings. On the other hand, the strings are mounted in open tuning machines. The instrument's lacquer finish protects the pickguard from scratches.
