Warm Audio WA-87 R2

Condenser Microphone / HN222021
The improved version of the WA-87 microphone is even closer to the authentic sound of the legendary '87 microphones. The Warm Audio WA87 R2 is Warm Audio's large-diaphragm condenser microphone. It is the second improved reincarnation of the legendary U87 microphone. Like its predecessor, it features a high-pass filter, -10 dB attenuation (pad) and three selectable directional characteristics (spherical, cardioid, figure-of-eight). Silver finish.

WA-87 R2: Updated and upgraded

In 2016, the Warm Audio brand introduced the reincarnation of one of the most iconic FET condenser microphones, the U87. With the launch of the first version of this microphone (the WA-87) for just $599, they brought this authentic vintage sound of the legendary microphone to a wide range of customers, many for the first time ever. Proving that top quality can be achieved at an affordable price.

With its rich sound based on classic circuitry, the WA87 has become the microphone of choice for countless producers, sound engineers and home studios around the world.

Since the release of the first version (in 2016), however, several years have passed, which Warm Audio engineers have dedicated to further research and refinement, until we get our hands on the second, more advanced and vastly improved version of the popular microphone, which now comes even closer to the original from the 60s that we all love and admire. Introducing the WA-87 R2 (Revision 2), bigger, bolder and simply better in every way than its predecessor.

Faithful reproduction and premium components

The WA-87 is based on the identical classic 1960s circuit of the original U87 microphone, widely regarded as one of the most versatile and popular studio microphones ever designed. At Warm Audio, they wanted to get even closer to that sound than with the first reincarnation of this celebrated microphone, which they ultimately achieved with top-notch components, often faithfully replicating the original circuitry. The new WA-87 R2 uses high-end components such as a Fairchild NOS transistor, Wima capacitors, and a custom-wound Cinemag USA output transformer (just like the first WA-87), but the upcoming WA-87 R2 version provides a slightly increased output level and improved frequency response. The capsule was designed to the exact specifications of the vintage model. The result is an incredibly accurate sonic replica of arguably the most widely used studio microphone in recording history!

The most versatile microphone in your collection

The WA-87 R2 can be used to record virtually anything. Three selectable directional characteristics (cardioid, omni and figure-of-eight) offer complete versatility of use, and an 80Hz high-pass filter reduces unwanted low-frequency noise when needed. A switchable -10dB attenuation (pad) protects the internal electronics even when used with extremely loud instruments/sound sources.

The WA-87 R2 is uniquely great for recording vocals, drum overheads, guitars, pianos, percussion, wind instruments and countless other applications. By keeping the more than friendly original price (1st version of the WA-87 reincarnation), you can actually afford several of these high-end microphones.

Stunning in sound and appearance

The WA-87 R2's high-end electronics are now encased in a heavier, more robust and larger nickel-plated brass body, and the new rounded-head basket shape adds additional space around the capsule for a more pleasing sound and distinctive signature. We truly believe this microphone is on par with microphones that cost five or more times its price. We're confident that the WA-87 R2 will become your favorite microphone no matter what you compare it to.

In addition to the microphone itself, you will find a wooden case to protect the microphone from mechanical damage. A holder for a firm attachment + a cushioned holder called "spider".
