The Warm Audio WA-1B is a single-channel tube opto-compressor fitted with premium components that combines the tone of select JJ and Tung-Sol tubes with custom large-core transformers from Swedish company Lundhal. The 100% discrete analog circuitry operates at 270V, and all components are wired by hand, by technicians trained for the purpose, right in the Austin (Texas, USA) factory.
Based on the famous Scandinavian design, the WA-1B offers the sonic versatility of the original, from pure transparent compression to rich and harmonically saturated tones when the tubes are loaded with higher input gain. The beautiful front panel of the rack-sized 2U unit is dominated by a backlit VU meter. The potentiometers and selectors allow the typical adjustment options for working with signal dynamics: a RATIO compression ratio of 2:1 to 10:1, variable TRESHOLD and dual operation of ATTACK and RELEASE values - it is the ability to combine fixed and manual settings that Warm Audio brings beyond the original topology.
The WA-1B features symmetrical XLR and 6.3 mm Jack TRS line inputs and outputs, the ability to key the signal through two 6.3 mm Jack TRS sidechain inputs, and a TRUE BYPASS switch where no signal flows through the circuit. The power supply of the device is switchable 230 / 115 V.
