Universal Audio Enigmatic '82 OD Special Amp

Universal Audio 's Enigmatic '82 Overdrive Special Amp is a simulator of the two-channel Overdrive Special guitar amps that have been custom-built since the 1970s by one man, Alexander "Howard" Dumble. They were typical in that they had an Overdrive channel in addition to the standard Clean channel and produced atmospheric and harmonically rich distortion with long sustain. To this day, these are some of the most expensive and best value amps on the market and you can now get them in one compact box. Wondering what this pedal sounds like? Inside this box are three decades of ODS amp development, from the first models of the 1970s to models of later decades.

Choose from four different amp simulations, accessed via the UAFX app, and nine guitar speaker variants (three can be controlled via a switch on the box and the other six can be found in the app) and further customize their sound with a range of adjustable parameters. In addition to the standard three-band EQ, you'll find Deep, Bright and Presence settings. Then, with the Rock/Jazz switch, you can easily switch between the two EQ modes to achieve either a rounder sound with muted highs in Jazz mode or a more aggressive and louder tone in Rock mode. There's also a Custom mode, which lets you set all the parameters to your liking and create your own specific instrument with a distinctive sound.

If you're not satisfied with the control panel menu on the box itself, you can further customize your sound in the UAFX app, which offers advanced settings and very intuitive controls. You'll find FET circuit simulation, Preamp Boost and other features that let you take a peek under the hood of your circuit and adjust its parameters. You can also try out presets from famous guitarists or set up and save your own so you always have them handy.
