The Legacy Collection culminates a year-long celebration of Taylor Guitars' 50th anniversary. The three models in the 800 Series harken back to the early Dreadnought and Jumbo designs created by Bob Taylor, while at the same time they are not pure reissues of fifty-year-old guitars - where appropriate, the instruments are enhanced with contemporary features. The first 100 pieces have a label inside the guitar personally signed by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
The Jumbo Legacy 815e's soundboard is made from Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are made from Indian rosewood. The shape of the body and headstock is slightly newer than the very first models. The mahogany neck is glued to an ebony fingerboard fitted with twenty frets. The patented neck design (formerly known as the NT neck) allows for detailed adjustment and thus great playability over the years. The X-type ribbing matches the Jumbo and Dreadnought designs before the arrival of Andy Powers (2011). Orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by mother-of-pearl position markers in the shape of diamonds.
The strings are mounted in nickel company mechanicals and in an ebony fingerboard in a vintage "moustache" design. The nice workmanship is accentuated by white perimeter binding, green abalone rosette, ebony pegs to the fingerboard with pearl dots (Abalone) and pickguard made of imitation tortoiseshell.
The guitar's sound system is provided by LR Baggs Element VTC electronics with a sub-cabinet pickup and Volume and Tone controls discreetly placed in the instrument's soundhole.
The guitar comes in a deluxe case.
