Tascam DR-40X

Tascam's new DR-X series of popular handheld recorders comes with dramatic feature enhancements and expanded capabilities that allow you to record in the harshest conditions. The recorders are ideal for musicians, reporters and journalists who require compact size and studio quality audio recording. When you first turn on the device, you will immediately notice the blue backlighting of the display, which, compared to the orange backlighting of the previous series, has great visibility even in direct sunlight.

At the heart of the Tascam DR-40X are two directional condenser microphones in A/B or X/Y configurations with cardioid directional characteristics. User-intuitive controls allow you to quickly set up your audio recording. You can check everything on the clear blue backlit display. The recorder also features a stereo XLR/TRS combo input with phantom power for an external microphone (you can record with both microphones simultaneously), a headphone output and a built-in speaker for maximum control during recording. Connect to your PC via the microUSB output. The handheld recorder is powered by three AA batteries with over 18 hours of battery life, or you can purchase the PS-P520E adapter and power the device directly from the mains. When using the recorder with a DSLR camera, you can connect a Tascam RC-3F/RC-10 remote control.

Capture your recording in 96 kHz/24 bit stereo quality in WAV or MP3 format and then save it to an SD card with up to 128 GB of memory. The recorder features automatic low-frequency clipping (40/80/120/220 Hz), fast playback, equalizer or chromatic tuner, and other features found in the multilingual menu. Adverse noises and noise are then removed by the automatic level modes (Limiter, Peak Reduction, Auto Level) or you can use the Level Align function to remove volume nuances. You'll also appreciate the six reverb effects for the Input/Output signal and the ability to record four independent tracks using the Overdub function, which will especially please musicians who record a lead vocal in one track, a vocal, a melodic guitar in the next and finally their solo. The new Dictation Mode allows you to skip freely within the recording, greatly speeding up its transcription into text form, and the Overwrite Mode cuts out part of the recording and replaces it with a new one.
