Steinberg has prepared an important software update for the Syncrosoft License Control Center dongle, now in version 5.4.8.0.
With this version it is now possible to transfer licenses from Soft e-Licenser (built on top of the application) directly to the hardware key (i.e. Steinberg Key). This makes it possible to install applications that previously used Soft e-Licenser (such as Sequel, Cubase LE 4, WaveLab Essential 6 or Cubase AI 4) on multiple computers (e.g. desktop and laptop) and use both versions depending on which computer the hardware key is connected to.
The Steinberg USB key protects against unauthorized use of applications.
The Steinberg Protective USB Key is a very important device for protecting Steinberg programs against unauthorized use. Another important thing is that the price of a given program is basically in this protection key. This stems from the fact that if this key is stolen or lost, it is not possible to provide a replacement and you have to purchase the program again. Replacement is only possible if the key is physically damaged or found to be non-functional. In the event of fire or other natural disasters, insurance may be used to cover the cost of purchasing a new program or a police report of investigation must be provided.
Any user who has legally purchased one of these products is automatically the owner of the key:
Nuendo
Cubase (highest or Artist version, not Elements, LE, AI, etc.)
WaveLab (highest version, not Elements, LE, etc.)
The other software is sold without a key and if the customer does not have a key yet, he/she must purchase it as a separate item at a price of 390 CZK incl. VAT.
The purchase of this key is also necessary for the use of new Steinberg VST tools launched after 1 January 2005, as these applications no longer contain their specific protection key. Users who already own this USB key do not need to purchase another key.
Guard your Steinberg keys like an eye in your head!
Some new Steinberg programs (Sequel, Cubase AI4) use a software protection key:
Soft-eLicenser
License Control Center
Steinberg uses a special program called LCC (License Control Center) to manage the protection keys of its products. This program needs to be updated especially for newer products. After installing the LCC program, this program will appear in the standard program menu on your computer.
For a detailed description of the functions and features of LCC, see Start - All Programs - Syncrosoft - License Control Center - ? - Help
To find out the current version of your LCC program, see:Start - All Programs - Syncrosoft - License Control Center - ? - About
Download the latest version from the Internet
Working principle:
Anyone who buys any full version of Cubase, Nuendo or WaveLab will receive a key with the license for that program already in place.
Upgrades and other programs are sold without a key, then a number is supplied in the package - an activation code that is entered into Syncrosoft License Control (License Download - work computer is connected to the Internet or "License Download (Offline) - work computer is not connected to the Internet) and used to enter the appropriate license from the Internet into the key that authorizes the use of the program. The activation code can be 22 digits or 32 digits. Once the license is downloaded from the Internet, the activation code is no longer valid. Anyone who has access to this code can download the licence from the Internet.
This code can only be used once!
Technically, it is basically not possible to do a "fake upgrade" - for example from the EDU version to the full version, etc. If you buy the first software from Steinberg and don't have the key, you have to buy it (for the price of 390 CZK incl. VAT). This key is empty (without license). Licenses between keys can be transferred, of course not copied. Everything is done on-line (with an internet connection) and a record of each license movement is created on a central server - an internet connection is indispensable, but it does not have to be on a work computer.
Steinberg states that you can also transfer the license from the LPT (parallel printer port) keys that were used with the old Cubase VST and Nuendo 1 programs.
This works similarly for iLok.

Other important notes:
USB key protection is probably a trend that all companies will follow in the future. It is an effective way to protect programs and it is also more difficult to produce a truly functional crack.
In our field of music software there are two key principles:
ilok - US platform (MOTU, Digidesign (Pro Tools), Waves, Logic)
Syncrosoft - European platform (Steinberg and IK Multimedia)
So it is possible to license both IK and Steinberg software on the same key. The iLok and Syncrosoft keys are of course incompatible with each other and you cannot "spill" licenses between them.
Steinberg: Currently only the following programs are no longer protected by a key:Xphraze, Virtual Guitarist and Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition.
