Sandberg California VM electric basses are instruments based on the time-tested Precision Bass design concept. Like other Sandberg instruments, these are made in Germany from absolutely first-class materials by a team of highly experienced guitar builders. There's really no need to worry about quality here.
The body of this bass is made from premium European ash, the neck from Canadian maple in a roasted finish that is sure to appeal not only for its unusual design, but also for its great sound characteristics. It is bolted to the body with six screws that keep it in a completely accurate position. It is fitted with an ebony fingerboard. The gauge of the instrument is 864 millimeters.
The guitar is fitted with a pair of pickups - in the middle position there is a single-coil type, specifically a Sandberg Splitcoil model, while the Sandberg Humbucker takes care of the thick bass at the headstock. A volume potentiometer, passive tone shield and active two-band EQ can be used to adjust the sound. But the latter can be removed from the signal path using the push/pull volume control, so the treble control works just like a tone.
The fingerboard is typically solid with separate stones, and in addition to great vibration transfer, it provides, for example, the possibility of adjusting the string spacing in the range of 18.5-20 mm. On the other side of the guitar we find Sandberg tuning machines.
