PRS Custom 24 Piezo Purple Mist

The Custom 24 Piezo Purple Mist model catches the eye at first glance with its combination of ergonomically shaped mahogany body with the typical PRS double cutaway and figured maple top with a cool wood grain. A single-piece mahogany neck with Pattern Thin profile is glued to a rosewood fingerboard fitted with twenty-four frets. Orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by the trademark PRS position markers in the form of mother-of-pearl bird silhouettes.

The specific feature of this instrument is the use of both classic magnetic pickups (humbuckers) and a sub-cubic piezo pickup. For this reason, the guitar has two inputs for connection to acoustic and electric guitars, or to a mixer.

A pair of 85/15 humbuckers, specially designed by company founder P.R. Smith, offer extended bass and treble response in addition to a beautifully clear transparent sound. The sound settings can be adjusted via the volume potentiometer, tone shutter and five-position pickup switch with split-coil configurations at positions 2 (humbucker + split-coil) and 4 (pure split/single-coil engagement). LR Baggs' signature underbody piezo pickup electronics expand the instrument's palette to include acoustic guitar tones, which can be selected between via a three-position switch. The Blend control lets you combine humbucker sounds with the piezo pickup and adjust their ratio.

Stable tuning is guaranteed by the Phase III Locking tuners with a mechanism that prevents unwanted string movement. The tuning pegs (wing buttons) are lighter than the metal mechanics on older models and allow the instrument to resonate longer. The Gen III tremolo system is also worth mentioning. All the grooves and screw holes are shaped to ensure maximum contact between the individual components, or the optimum string break angle, so that even the finest vibrations are transmitted to the body. The stones are fixed against sideways movement, and the exact position of the vibrato lever can be adjusted with a built-in screw.

The guitar comes in a hardshell case.
