PLAYdifferently MODEL 1.4 (opened)

Unpacked Analogue Mixer / HN274278
The PLAYdifferently MODEL 1.4 is a special analogue mixing console of superior sound quality that gives the user new creative possibilities and allows them to approach sound in a different, more creative way.

This mixing console combines uncompromising sound quality in the form of beautiful sounding analog circuits and intuitive controls. The whole concept was designed by Andy Rigby-Jones and co-designed by Richie Hawtin, with two years of testing, research and refinement with artists, club reps and engineers from across the electronic music community. The MODEL 1.4 is manufactured in the UK in collaboration with partners DigiCo and Allen & Heath using a steel alloy chassis for maximum strength and minimum weight optimised for touring, club and performance situations.

The MODEL 1.4 provides four full-featured and fantastic sounding input channels plus two stereo RETURNS in an even more compact format than the larger MODEL 1. It also has a host of features not currently available on any comparable device (such as input preamp distortion adjustment, hybrid filter/extended Bell-type EQ, dual cue system, dual mixer interconnect system and Tascam DB25 symmetrical connectors. The fully symmetrical main mixing bus, usually only found on high-end analogue studio consoles, provides >110dB of dynamic range and very low noise and crosstalk.

SEND & RETURN
Two AUX drivers send the channel signal to the Aux output (Jack 6.3 mm TRS) for use with external effects processors, or in some applications you can use them to connect listening monitors for which the BOOTH output is otherwise reserved. AUX 1 offers PRE or POST FADE, while AUX 2 is internally set to post fader. The two stereo base channels (Jack 6.3 mm TRS) can be used as return inputs from external effects processors or other sources. Each RETURN features a TRIM function for setting the return signal, a DRIVE input circuit, and CUE routing to both Cue A and Cue B. Each RETURN also features a Metering function for visual signal level feedback, a LEVEL rotary potentiometer for adjusting the amount of Mix, and combined Return 1-2 Low Cut EQ and Master Filter routing.

DO YOU WANT A TURNTABLE?
The 2 high performance phono inputs (RCA cinch) with RIAA signal processing capability are optimized for club environments. Each phono input has its own individual ground binding for added flexibility.

STUDIO FADERS
TKD's 60mm long faders feature a stiffer action for greater precision and have been carefully selected to ensure long life.

PRECISION EQ AND FILTERS
The SCULPT is a semi-parametric swept bell filter and consists of two controls: the FREQ, which adjusts the center frequency, and the CUT/BOOST, which adjust the gain or attenuation at that frequency. The cut/boost level is asymmetrical, the maximum boost is limited to +8 dB, while the cut is extended to -20 dB. The Sculpt has a wide Q and frequency range that covers nearly seven octaves. Contour filters HP and LPF allow you to "shape" the frequency range of the audio signal. They consist of low Q, upper and lower pass filters that are designed to add no color to the sound. There is also a two-band BOOTH equalizer that allows the user to adjust the frequency response for monitoring.

ANALOG OVERDRIVE
A unique feature available on each input is the DRIVE control. This control allows the user to adjust the level at which the channel preamplifier trims the input signal, producing harmonic distortion as a creative effect.

DUAL CUE
The user has two independent Cue systems, A and B. Cue A goes to the right headphone monitor and Cue B goes to the left headphone monitor. The DualCue system makes it much easier for two DJs to perform together on the mixing console in "Back2Back" setups, as each DJ can select a separate channel to monitor without disturbing the other.

MIXER LINK
The system allows multiple mixing consoles to be linked together, either for use with two or more performers, or as a way of expanding the number of channels. When linked, the mixers share a common symmetrical mix that feeds the PA and monitors. In addition, two Cue systems are linked, allowing interactive cueing between multiple performers.

POWER
The internal 24V voltage from an external source is converted to less than +/- 20V using high frequency switching technology, giving MODEL 1.4 one of the highest signal throughput levels of any professional mixing console, regardless of application.
