The front board of the ST 40 CW Natural HG Element is made of Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are made of mahogany. The mahogany neck is glued to a modern richlite composite fingerboard with twenty-one frets.
The sound is captured using L.R. Baggs Element active electronics with an Element sub-coil piezo pickup and Volume and Tone controls discreetly placed in the guitar's soundhole. The strings are mounted in the company's proprietary 16:1 open-gear gears over Graphtech zero and saddle frets and an ebony fingerboard. The stylish look is accentuated by practical and decorative elements in the form of position markers on the fingerboard, decorative rosette and pickguard made of imitation tortoiseshell.
