The smaller size of the microphone contributes to an exceptionally compact appearance that nevertheless fits in with the classic Neumann design. The elegant shape together with the chrome-plated ring catches your attention at first glance. A cushioned EA-4 holder is included for the most stable grip on the microphone.

Inside the microphone is a newly developed large-diaphragm microphone capsule with cardioid characteristic. The maximum sound pressure level (SPL) is 144 dB, a value that allows the TLM 102 to be used for picking up very loud instruments such as percussion, drums or guitar amplifiers. The fast transient response makes it suitable for all musical instruments. However, its main domain is voice - both vocals and spoken word. The frequency curve is flat with a slight lift above 6 kHz, ensuring minimal voice coloration and clear bass reproduction. For touch noise suppression, the capsule is housed in a flexible hinge. In addition to protecting the capsule, the cover grille also serves as a pop filter to eliminate rarities when capturing vocals and spoken word.
