After the analogue synths monotron, monotribe, and MS-20 Mini, Korg introduces the new volca series. It consists of a total of three models: the volca keys synthesizer, the volca bass or bass synthesizer, and the volca beats or drums synthesizer. These synths offer really interesting possibilities for music creation, where you will appreciate especially the wide range of dense sounds that can only be created with analogue equipment, as well as the looping sequencer to generate unique phrases. These models are compatible with each other so you can use them together or link them to your music software. The Volca Keys is a long-awaited synthesizer that will undoubtedly write another successful chapter in Korg's long and varied history of analog synthesizers. The Volca Keys is a 27-key analogue synthesizer, offering breathtaking sounds in a very small footprint. Its circuitry builds on the classic design used in the legendary miniKORG700S (1974), offering a half-century of proven know-how in analogue sound technology. With its uncluttered structure, featuring a delay effect and sequencer, it's also the ideal choice for easy yet effective sound creation.

A simple three-voice analogue synthesizer
With a structure containing 3VCO, 1VCF, 1VCA, 1LFO, and 1EG, the volca keys has a very variable structure at first glance. The ability to generate very different sounds by simply changing a few parameters is a distinctive feature of analog synthesizers. The possibilities of sounds are virtually endless; you can use the three oscillators to play chords, or in slight detuning to play the same note, or combine them with a ring modulator to generate unmistakable "metal" sounds. Its simplicity makes volca keys the ideal tool for understanding the basic principles of creating your own sound.

Voicing function for easy sound creation
The Voicing function makes it easy to set up how the three oscillators combine with each other. Just turn the knob to one of six combinations: Poly, Unison, Octave, Fifth, Unison Ring, or Poly Ring. The different settings result in a wide variety of sounds.

There is a sequencer with 16 steps, allowing you to record your playing. You can then easily create different phrases on it, and you can throw in additional data (overdub) to the already recorded data, producing complex loops that you wouldn't play at once. Up to eight sequencer quavers can be stored in memory.

Using Motion Sequence to create loops
The Motion Sequence feature can record the movements of controls and buttons, allowing you to further enhance the sounds and loops you create. You'll also appreciate this feature when performing live.

Active Step and Flux - dynamic sequence changes
Active Step is a feature that allows you to skip certain steps during sequence playback. It is therefore an effect similar to a shortened loop, or it can be used to create irregular rhythms, bringing the whole sequence to life. If you use the Flex function, you can play back phrases without quantizing individual steps.

Self-tuning function
Up until now, the problem with analogue synthesizers has sometimes been the way the pitch would change abruptly. The volca model features a self-tuning function that continuously tunes the oscillators. This way, you don't have to wait for the instrument's tuning to stabilize the next time you turn it on or during live performances.

SYNC jack and MIDI IN connector - connects to other instruments or music software
Thanks to the wide connectivity, you can enjoy playback coming out of several volca synths simultaneously, or connect them to a monotribe. Thanks to the "SyncKontrol" app on your iPhone, you can also wirelessly control tempo and some other settings, for example, including playback with iOS via WIST.

Via the MIDI IN connector you can sync the synth with other devices, or "play" the synth via a connected MIDI keyboard. Similarly, it is also possible to connect the volca to your music software and use it as a sound module within it.
