Korg Volca Beats

(3) Analogue Groovebox / HN139190
The Volca Beats model features high-quality analog drums that build on the legacy of classic rhythm modules and an easy-to-use step sequencer inspired by the Electribe series.

Real analog drums
The volca beats model offers six sounds where the analogue quality shines through the most: Kick, Snare, Hi Tom, Lo Tom, Closed Hi Hat, and Open Hi Hat. By very carefully reworking these standard sounds, which are indispensable for dance music, Korg has achieved inspiring new sounds that cannot be generated except on analog.

Maximum performance with minimum parameters - the unique advantage of analogue
With volca beats, you'll find a carefully selected set of parameters that let you instantly create the sound you want. For example, all you need is a combination of the three rotary buttons Click, Pitch, and Decay. Whatever the settings of the controls, you'll always hear the high-quality sound only achievable on an analog sound generator.

A PCM sound engine that complements the analog
The PCM engine covers some sounds where using an analog system would not be appropriate, such as the Clap, Claves, Agogo, and Crash sounds. However, all PCM is also of the highest quality. You can then customize their character by changing the PCM Speed setting.

Loop sequencer taken from Electribe
This sequencer is designed to make editing easy and allow for impromptu insertion or removal of certain parts. Using the 16 keys, you can insert individual notes while visually checking their correct timing within a measure. For each of the three oscillators you can insert completely different phrases, and recording can be done in real time. Up to eight sequencer patterns can be stored in memory.

Stutter function for dynamic sequence changes
For live performances, you'll definitely benefit from the Stutter function, which adds dynamism and a touch of delay effect to patterns. You can use it to completely change the original sound or use it as a transition when switching between two patterns. Stutter button movements can also be recorded into a sequence.

Active Step and Step Jump functions
The Active Step function allows you to skip steps during sequence playback; conversely, the Step Jump function, when pressed, immediately plays only the step you need. This is an effect similar to an abbreviated loop, or it can be used to create irregular rhythms, bringing the whole sequence to life as if you were playing it yourself.

Thanks to the wide connectivity, you can enjoy playback coming out of several volca synths at the same time, or connect them to a monotribe. You can also wirelessly control tempo and some other settings via iPhone, including iOS playback via WIST.

You can sync the synth to other devices via the MIDI IN connector, or "play" the synth via a connected MIDI keyboard. Similarly, it is also possible to connect the volca to your music software and use it as a sound module within it.

After the analogue monotron, monotribe, and MS-20 Mini synthesizers, Korg introduces the new volca series. It consists of a total of three models: the volca keys synthesizer, the volca bass or bass synthesizer, and the volca beats or drums synthesizer. These synthesizers offer really interesting possibilities for music creation, where you will appreciate especially the wide range of dense sounds that can only be created with analogue equipment, as well as a looping sequencer to generate unique phrases. These models are compatible with each other so you can use them together or link them to your music software. Because they are battery powered and have built-in speakers, you can use them anytime, anywhere. Experience a new generation of analogue synthesizers with unparalleled sound and features.

Even today, more than thirty years after analog synthesizers dominated the music scene, we can't leave analog drum machines behind. Their distinctive sound, so prominent alongside guitar and acoustic drums, is still indispensable in recording and live performance.
