Ibanez Jon Gomm JGM11

British guitarist Jon Gomm is one of the current generation of virtuoso musicians who prefer a percussive style of playing, able to conjure up a rhythm section (bass lines and percussion) on the guitar in addition to melodic lines. The JGM11 is his signature model of electroacoustic guitar from the high-end Platinum Collection series of the Japanese brand Ibanez.

The guitar's asymmetrical body is based on the Jumbo concept. The guitar's soundboard is made of solid spruce specially heated in a vacuum (Thermo Aged). The result is a light and hard top that is reminiscent of wood that has been dried for several decades. The back and sides are made of solid African mahogany. Glued to the five-piece mahogany and maple neck is an ebony makassar fingerboard fitted with twenty jumbo-size stainless steel frets. The instrument's slightly longer gauge (655 mm) is ideal for the alternative tunings that Jon Gomm uses. The luminescent dots on the side give you an overview of what's happening on the fingerboard even in the twilight.

A specific feature of the guitar is the rather complex way of capturing acoustic sound (the Fishman PowerTap Earth Blend system), which offers contact microphone/sensor sensing in addition to the Fishman Rare Earth Mic Blend active electronics, which uses a combination of humbucker and cardioid microphone sensing. This system is thus able to pick up even the most subtle vibrations of the body and neck, providing the guitar with a beautifully rich acoustic sound with dynamic accents of percussive elements - and without the risk of feedback.

The guitar's two jack outputs offer the option of stereo (separate pickup and microphone signals) and mono connection. The strings are held in place via a zero fret and compensated bone saddle by chrome Gotoh and non-traditional banjo mechanics (Keith Banjo Tuners Stainless Steel). The luxurious workmanship is accentuated by wooden elements in the form of body binding, decorative inlay on the fingerboard and rosette.

The guitar comes in a Fiberglass case.
