The Ibanez GRG121SP-GYC electric guitar is part of the GIO series, which offers affordable instruments suitable for beginning players. It is a Super ST RG model with a flatter neck, lower weight and distinctive body cutouts tailored to the needs of aspiring rock and metal guitarists.
The body of the guitar is made of poplar. A roasted maple neck is glued to a jatoba fingerboard with twenty-four Medium frets. White position dots on the fingerboard facilitate orientation.
Two Classic Elite passive humbuckers with ceramic magnets give the guitar a rich sound with a thick bass bottom end. The character of the sound can be adjusted using the volume potentiometers, the tone shutter and the five-position switch (position 2 plays only the inner neck pickup coil, position 4 the inner neck pickup coil and the outer neck pickup coil).
The strings are mounted in the company's tuning machines and through the F106 six-saddle through-body bridge. Many will also appreciate the mono-unit output jack made from a single piece of durable material, thus avoiding the usual effect of individual parts coming loose and losing contact.
