Gibson 1980 Sonex 180 Deluxe Ebony

Boutique Electric Guitar / HN250504
A special guitar from 1980, made in Gibson's factory in the USA.

The body is made of maple, which is surrounded in about 10 mm layer of composite called "resonwood". This multi-phonic construction was both inexpensive to manufacture and promised excellent sonic qualities, as well as being a visionary design feat through which this model is now one of the great curiosities. However, this electric guitar, based on the Les Paul shape and fitted with a pair of humbuckers, was and still is widely used in many genres thanks to its versatile sound. In doing so, this Sonex is an unadulterated vintage instrument with a rich history, evidenced especially by the neck varnish worn down to mahogany wood, and is still in 100% playable condition.

The electronics - potentiometers and switch are original, the neck pickup is an original Gibson (marked Sonex 180 deluxe 229954), and the neck pickup is a newer Seymour Duncan SH8B. The potentiometer knobs are also non-original, the rosewood fingerboard has probably been re-pressed in the past, the zero fret is also newer. There are multiple scuffs on the body edges and headstock, one even affecting the serial number, but this is still legible.

It is being sold including the original case with partially working buckles under BAZAR VAT.
