FENDER KURT COBAIN JAGUAR

First introduced in 1962, this guitar draws design cues from the Jazzmaster four years younger. It's hard to say whether this was a new attempt by Fender to break into jazz after the failure of the Jazzmaster, or a new type of instrument for the surf rock scene, but either way the Jaguar found a following, especially in alternative rock. Produced between 1962 and 1975, it has been back in production since 1999.

ARTIST

The Artist series offers the best of what Fender produces - these are the signature instruments of the most famous and demanding musicians, to name but a few - Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Dave Murray and Yngwie Malmsteen.

This particular model is based on an instrument used by Kurt Cobain, frontman of the legendary grunge band Nirvana.

Body and neck

The Jaguar has an asymmetrical body with a cutout below the neck and a cutaway above it, and is made of alder. Under the strings we find a pickguard. The neck is made of rosewood, its gauge is measured at 610 mm, it has a C profile and a polyurethane finish. The fingerboard is rosewood, has a radius of 9.5 inches and we find 22 Medium Jumbo frets on it.

Pickups and electronics

This guitar has two DiMarzio humbucker pickups, a Super Distortion model at the neck and a PAF DP-103 at the tailpiece. The pickups are switched by a 3-position switch, and there is a switch for the Lead and Rhythm circuits. In the Lead circuit, the volume and tone diaphragm of each pickup can be set separately, while the Rhythm circuit has separate volume and tone diaphragm settings for the neck pickup.

Hardware

Hardware is chrome, black chrome and nickel plated, on the headstock we find the Gotoh mechanics typical for Fender on one side. On the other side there is an Adjusto-Matic type tailpiece with a tremolo that can be locked, the strings are mounted in the tailpiece. The instruments are factory strung with Fender USA NPS 010 - 046 strings.
