The Jazz Bass is the second bass model that Leo Fender introduced - first as the Deluxe Bass in 1960. The name Jazz Bass was ultimately chosen because Fender felt that a bass of these parameters would appeal particularly to jazz musicians. However, he was a bit wrong about that, because today you can find "JB" in many other genres of music where their warm and thick tone comes into play.
The Artist series offers the best of what Fender produces - these are in fact the signature instruments of some of the most famous and demanding musicians, to name a few - Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Dave Murray, Yngwie Malmsteen. This particular model is signed by Geddy Lee, the well-known Canadian bassist for the band Rush.
The body of this bass is made of the proven choice alder, the neck is made of maple. The neck gauge corresponds to 864 mm, the width of the zero fret is 38.1 mm, its profile is Thin C type, the radius is 9.5 inches and it is fitted with 20 frets. The fingerboard is maple.
The instrument is equipped with two Fender single-coil pickups, specifically Vintage Jazz Bass models. You can adjust the sound using the two Volume potentiometers and the common tone shutter.
The strings are anchored in a Leo Quan Badass II headstock. On the other side of the instrument you will find Open Gear tuning mechanisms, which make tuning stability really maximum. The hardware is nickel plated and chrome plated. The zero fret is bone. The bass is strung with Fender USA NPS .045, .065, .080, .105 strings.
