The Limited Edition Red Hot Esquire - Relic, Aged Black is an electric guitar from the Fender Custom Shop that enriches the vintage Fender aesthetic with a touch of modern playability to offer a truly unique playing experience. This is a pre-Telecaster Fender Esquire design with a single single-coil pickup in the neck position and fairly specific wiring/circuitry, so it is in no way sonically a Telecaster without a neck pickup.
The guitar's narrower Thinline body with classic F hole is made from two pieces of select chambered ash. The Relic finish, with authentic-looking faux patina elements in the form of minor scuffs, scratches and scars, gives the guitar the look of an instrument that's been played and flashed around clubs and bars for years. The neck is constructed from a single piece of grafted maple and features a period 1952 "U" profile, with the fingerboard surface divided by twenty-one Medium Jumbo (6150) frets.
The guitar's sound is provided by a hand-wound Custom Shop single-coil Josefina "Red Hot" Telecaster pickup installed at an inverted angle than usual. A special feature of the guitar is the modified Esquire "cocked wah" circuitry with volume and tone controls and a three-position toggle switch that functions as an additional "tone shaper". This gives you the classic Telecaster "twang" sound as well as a vocal quality (cocked wah tone) where you can almost perfectly mimic the sound of a quacker when working with the volume potentiometer.
The strings are mounted in vintage design tuning machines via a bone fret zero, and via a Nocaster tailpiece with RSD brass saddles through the body. The stylish look is accentuated by the single-ply pickguard.
The guitar is supplied in a case with a guitar strap and certificate of authenticity.
