1957 Stratocaster Heavy Relic Aged 2-Color Sunburst is an electric guitar from the Fender Custom Shop.
The body of the guitar is made of two pieces of ash. The Heavy Relic finish, with its distinctive elements of faux patina in the form of "scratched lacquer", faded hardware and other battle scars, convincingly evokes decades of intense playing and gigging, even though this is a brand new, not a boutique/bazaar, instrument. The glossy nitrocellulose lacquer not only allows the wood to breathe and does not muffle its sound, but also adds a distinctly personal character as the years pass.
The one-piece maple neck (rift sawn) features a '57-style soft "V" profile, with the fingerboard surface divided by twenty-one Narrow Tall frets and black micarta dots.
A trio of hand-wound Custom Shop Tomatillo Stratocaster single-coil pickups (the middle one has reversed polarity and windings) gives the guitar a cool dynamic sound with Strat feel. The Alnico 2 magnets used simulate what properly preserved pickups with Alnico 5 magnets might sound like years later. Vintage Modified #2 circuitry with Greasebucket circuitry allows you to take away the highs without accentuating the bass frequencies.
The strings are held in vintage-style tuning machines and a synchronized Custom Shop tremolo. The styling is accentuated by a single layer pickguard (parchment).
The guitar comes in a case with a certificate of authenticity and guitar strap.
