ELECTRO HARMONIX VOICE-BOX

The Voice-Box is a versatile and easy-to-use voice synthesizer, harmonizer and vocoder that is significantly more practical than large and complicated rack-mounted devices, thanks to the size of an ordinary effects box. Yet it does the same thing and then some. With the Voice-Box you can generate harmonies to your vocals, simulate a robotic voice or otherwise modify your vocals.

The design is typical of the Electro Harmonix series - a durable metal chassis that houses high-quality electronics, two reliable solid-state switches, six potentiometers, two 6.3 mm Jack inputs for connecting an instrument, and two standard XLRs for connecting to a microphone.

This vocoder offers 9 distinct sound modes, which you choose between with the Mode control and within which you can also save presets. Low Harmony generates a note a third or a fourth below and a fifth or sixth below your original note, High Harmony does the same above your original note, Low High Harmony generates notes a fifth below and a third above your vocal, Multi Harmony 1 generates notes a third and a fifth below and a third above your note, Multi Harmony 2 adds an octave above your original note, Multi Harmony 3 adds an octave below. Octaves transpose your voice an octave higher or lower. The penultimate mode is Unison + Whiste, with which you get a second voice with Gender-Bender adjustment and a tone two octaves higher. Finally, there's the Vocoder, which turns the Voice-Box into a 256-band vocoder.

Control is done in all modes with the same controllers. Blend determines the ratio of clean to reverbed signal, the two Reverb controls set the reverb level separately for the original signals and for the generated sounds, Gender-Bender modulates between male and female voices, and finally Voice-Mix sets the volume ratio between specific generated harmonies. In different modes, these controls may have slightly different effects on the sound or effect parameters.

On the V256 you will also find two footswitches and two toggle switches. The footswitches are used to activate or deactivate presets, and then of course as an effect switch. The smaller toggle switches are used to toggle the microphone's input gain level for optimal results with the V256, and to switch the microphone's phantom power. Power is supplied via the included adapter.
