The EHX Micro Q-Tone Plus offers the same design as the original envelope filter/auto wah Q-Tron, augmented with an effects loop and a useful Response switch. It's a pedal controlled by the volume and dynamics of your playing - simply put, the harder you "rake" the strings, the more pronounced the wah pedal's "quack" effect will be. It should therefore be of particular interest to players of funk and related genres.
A relatively large set of controllers offers a wide range of sound settings. Setting the two pure rotary Gain and Peak knobs determines the degree of sensitivity of the filter to the dynamics of your playing and the width of the filter's operating frequency band. The rest is taken care of by the switches - Mode determines the frequencies the filter will pass/emphasise (LP, BP, HP - bass, midrange or treble), Response switches the envelope filter's response time from fast to slow, Sweep changes the frequency modulation direction, Range emphasises vocal sounds in the Lo position, and aliquots in the Hi position, and Boost increases the gain of the signal going into the filter.
The Effects Loop allows you to place external pedal effects between the Micro Q-Tone Plus pedal preamp and the filter. This allows you to create impressive new effects without losing dynamic sensitivity and good tone/chord articulation.
All of the pedal's electronics are housed in a durable metal chassis. The box operates in true bypass mode, so it doesn't affect the pass-through signal in any way when switched off. Power is supplied by the included adapter.
