The Eastman Strings brand was founded in 1992 by Chinese flutist Qian Ni after graduating from the Boston University School of Music. Over the course of three decades, the company's portfolio has grown to include acoustic, semi-acoustic and electric guitars (Eastman Guitars) and with it the brand's fame, so that the company's players include such luminaries as James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth). In the case of Eastman instruments, you can rely on superior craftsmanship, demonstrated by features and techniques such as hand-reduced ribbing or individual tuning of the instrument's soundboard.

The Eastman SB59-SB is an electric guitar in a single-cut "LP" design. The mahogany body of the guitar is adorned with a solid flame maple top. The wood grain is enhanced by a gloss lacquer (Truetone Gloss) and sunburst finish. A single-piece mahogany neck is glued to an ebony fingerboard with twenty-two frets. Orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by pearl position blocks (Pearl Crowns).

Vintage output Seymour Duncan '59 humbuckers give the guitar the classic PAF humbucker tone and feel that you'll appreciate in blues or rock, i.e., the sound of a cob pickup with brighter treble and a bit more compression than old-school PAF pickups offer, and the warm, full sound of a neck pickup. Adjust the character of the sound using the standard controls. The strings are mounted in Gotoh tuning machines and through a Gotoh GE-104B-NI Relic tailpiece in the same brand's strings. The nice workmanship is accentuated by the imitation ivory top and fingerboard binding and the mother-of-pearl company logo on the headstock.
