The Eastman Strings brand was founded in 1992 by Chinese flutist Qian Ni after graduating from the Boston University School of Music. Over the course of three decades, the company's portfolio has grown to include acoustic, semi-acoustic and electric guitars (Eastman Guitars) and with it the brand's fame, so that the company's players include such luminaries as James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth). In the case of Eastman instruments, you can rely on superior craftsmanship, demonstrated by features and techniques such as hand-reduced ribbing or individual tuning of the instrument's soundboard.
The Eastman Romeo is a semi-hollowbody electric guitar with a sleek modern design. The front of the guitar is made of solid spruce, while the back and sides are made of laminated mahogany. An ebony fingerboard with twenty-two frets is glued to the maple neck. Orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by pearl position dots.
Two Lollar Custom Wound Imperial humbuckers provide the guitar with the tone and feel of 1950s PAF pickups. The guitar's sound stands out in a variety of musical styles - from jazz and blues to modern rock. Adjust the character of the sound with the volume potentiometer, two tone controls and a three-position pickup switch.
The strings are mounted in Gotoh tuning machines, and the Gotoh GE-103B-NI strings are mounted in a Gotoh GE-103B-NI stringer. The nice workmanship is accentuated by the double-sided imitation ivory body binding and the mother-of-pearl company logo on the headstock.
