The Time Shadows II guitar effect is a collaboration between two American brands EarthQuaker Devices and Death by Audio. It is a multifunctional delay effect whose three modes will shoot you into a universe of ambient and explosive sounds you never dreamed of before.
The first of these, EQD, is the work of Jamie Stillman of EarthQuaker Devices. In this mode, the box runs the input signal through a digital distortion, mixes it with a polyphonic sub-octave, then feeds it a delay, and finally spits it out into a resonating low-pass filter. The result is a hard-to-describe effect that the manufacturer himself said sounds like a space-age jazz bazooka - atmospheric, explosive and complex. On the other hand, there's the DBA mode, which transports you into the mind of Death by Audio's Oliver Ackermann and offers a rapidly metamorphosing multi-delay filter that sounds like you're in a freezing space cave listening to its echoes. Leaving the switch in the middle position opens up ¡!, a dual-delay mode that delves deeper into hell with each repeated line while soaring higher and higher towards the heavens.
Four knobs are used to control other parameters. Time affects delay time, Span lets you set the number of repeats, and Filter works a little differently depending on which mode you're playing in. The fourth control is the Preset switch. To make sure you always have your favourite settings to hand, Time Shadows II lets you store up to 6 different presets and simply recall them when you need them. The pedal will then operate in either Live mode, where it will reflect your current controller settings, or Preset mode, where it will play your saved presets. The box also supports the connection of an external expression pedal, allowing you to choose which parameter you want the pedal to control.
