D'Angelico's Excel series represents instruments manufactured in the Republic of Korea, which, thanks to the quality of workmanship and components, will delight professional players and pure music enthusiasts.
The Excel SS Soho Amaretto Burst single-cut bay guitar embodies the energy and sound of the city that never sleeps. In fact, it was designed by American guitarist and New York jazz icon Mark Whitfield.
The guitar's fifteen-inch wide bay body is composed of a laminated spruce front and laminated figured maple back and sides. Glued to the three-piece maple and walnut neck is an ebony fingerboard fitted with twenty-two Jescar 47/104 pakfong (nickel silver) frets. The neck's narrow C profile ensures smooth finger movement on the fingerboard and a comfortable fingerboard finish, while orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by Mother of Pearl/Abalone split-block position blocks.
The Kent Armstrong "Jazzy Joe" Floating Mini Humbucker gives the guitar a beautifully warm sound with round bass and articulate mids that you'll appreciate in jazz and other genres built on a clean, warm sound. Stable tuning and good sustain are ensured by mounting the strings via a Graphtech TusQ zero fret in Grover 509 Super Rotomatic Locking and an Art Deco-style ebony string through the ebony fretboard.
The guitar's luxurious craftsmanship is accentuated by the multi-layered body, fingerboard and headstock binding, five-ply Scalini pickguard in macassar ebony, ebony potentiometer caps, gold-finished hardware and a vintage 1930s D'Angelico design (Throwback Scroll-style) headstock embellished with a mother-of-pearl D'Angelico New York logo and mother-of-pearl Excel Series inlay.
The guitar comes in a high quality gig bag.
