The RHYTHM DESIGNER RD-8 MKII is the perfect reincarnation of the sonically phenomenal Roland TR-808 drum machine, including the legendary 662 OTA chip.
Thanks to Behringer, you can once again have the opportunity to try your hand at working with the now retro hardware equipment that often stood at the birth of new genres and beat making for various electronic music or hip hop. The Rhythm Designer range brings together compact drum machines that may look subtle, but they really aren't toys, they are fully authentic replicas that also sound great!
The RD-8 MKII is equipped with one of the most powerful step sequencers ever created and provides a much improved workflow over the original model. The 64-step sequencer also includes memory for up to 256 patterns and 16 tracks, allowing you to create arrangements of tracks ranging from the very simple to the incredibly complex. The 16 percussion sounds can be edited using the Wave Designer and Dual-Mode Filter.
The integrated Wave Designer has individual attack and sustain controls that can be applied to individual voices to bring an extra dimension to your percussion. In addition, the RD-8 MKII features a flexible dual-mode 12 dB filter knob that switches between LPF and HPF, allowing you to experiment with the cutoff frequency and resonance controls to create beats like something out of another world. These smooth sweeps can even be recorded directly into the sequencer and further edited using the step editor.
The modern age, calls for a USB connection for MIDI syncing and triggering. This allows the RD-8 MKII to be controlled via your DAW if needed, opening up a whole new range of possibilities for working with patterning and arranging your tracks.
