Ampeg 1968 B25 Vintage

Boutique Tube Bass Guitar Amplifier / HN271907
We offer a recipe for a true vintage bass sound. Take preferably a Fender Precision or Gibson EB3 (but not necessary), put some smoothed strings on it (but not necessary), and plug it into an old Ampeg tube amp connected to some 15" or 18" speakers (but not necessary), and you're good to go. Now all you have to do is put on a denim jacket, leather rocker boots, a flowered shirt (but not necessary) and the oldschool ride can begin. That Ampeg amplifier we're just introducing.

The Ampeg B-25 is an all-tube bass amp that was in production from 1968 to the late 1970s. Conceptually, it was a continuation of the trend set by the legendary B-15N (the so-called "flip top"), but using different tubes (12AX7 in the preamp and 7027A in the end stage) and adding an "Ultra Lo" switch. Although the tubes are different, the preamp construction is almost identical. The amp produces a typical Ampeg sound, dense, warm yet punchy.

This particular piece dates from 1968, so it is one of the earliest examples of this model. In its long life, it may have had its leatherette cover painted white. Apparently, it suited the band's stage presence. The lettering on the front panel has been partially lost with use. Recently, the instrument has undergone a thorough service, several capacitors have been replaced (often a necessary replacement that does not affect the final sound), it has a new bias potentiometer, improved chassis fit in the box, one new knob or a huge red diode. The original ones are both transformers, which in turn are components that have a big effect on the sound of the amp. The amp runs on US 110V, so you need to connect it to a voltage converter, this is included in the sale.

The amp has a vintage look, is professionally treated and sounds as you would expect from an old Ampeg. If this machine has been able to function for 50 years, it shows the very high quality of its components and workmanship, this amp still has a lot of work to do. We can very well imagine this machine in a recording studio and on smaller stages.

Please note: this is of course a used item. Much of its exceptional value lies in its antiquity. Bazaar VAT regime.

Voltage converter is included in the sale.
