AKG PERCEPTION is a range of versatile large-diaphragm microphones bringing excellent studio quality to all areas of audio work. In addition to home studio recording, commercial, podcast and webcast production, the microphones are also suitable for live sound reinforcement thanks to their very robust design and ability to handle high sound pressure levels. Designed in AKG's development department in Vienna and manufactured in the China factory under strict quality control by Austrian engineers, PERCEPTION microphones fully comply with AKG's strict product standards.
The Perception 420 is a versatile large-diaphragm condenser microphone with (switchable) directional characteristics featuring top-quality workmanship and a unique combination of great sound, superior features and high utility value. The Perception 400 produces a classic warm and well-distorted sound. The dual 1" diaphragm microphone capsule allows for a choice of kidney, sphere and figure of eight characteristics. This gives the microphone user unprecedented flexibility for a variety of applications. Switchable low frequency attenuation compensates for the proximity effect causing a lift at low frequencies when capturing at close range using the kidney directional characteristic. The microphone has a good sensitivity of 28mV and, importantly, also a high rebuildability. Sound sources producing sound pressures up to 155 dB can be sensed by switching the attenuation to -20 dB. It can also playfully handle bass drum pickup. The microphone body is made of precision machined zinc-aluminum alloy and the microphone capsule is protected by a durable stainless steel grille. The supplied accessories include a cushioned spider holder and a metal transport case.
