Electric guitars from the RG series of the Japanese brand Ibanez are among the most famous instruments of this type. Their flatter, faster neck, lighter weight and distinctive cutouts with stylishly pointed horns for easy movement across the entire fingerboard are the reasons for their extreme popularity among rock and metal guitarists.
The body of the RG8EX-BKF eight-string guitar is made of meranti. A five-piece maple and walnut neck with a fast Wizard II-8 profile is glued to a jatoba fingerboard fitted with twenty-four jumbo-sized frets. A longer baritone menorah (686 mm) helps with the articulation of the guitar's "fat wire eight" sound. Orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by position dots.
Two IBZ-8 passive corporate humbuckers with ceramic magnets give this eight-string guitar a deep, clearly articulated tone. Standard sound adjustments are made with volume potentiometers, tone controls and a three-position pickup switch. The strings are mounted in the company's tuning machines and through a solid F108 bridge through the body of the guitar.
