Boss Katana Air Ex

The Katana-Air EX wireless hybrid combo from Japan's Boss takes the hassle out of carrying cables - be they instrument, interconnect, network or adapters - once and for all. The EX version expands on the capabilities of the 2018 Katana-Air pilot model in terms of power (35W), the fullness and improved sound projection of the solid wood cabinet with bass reflex and two custom five-inch drivers, and flexibility.

The Katana-Air EX is a two-channel combo with five selectable sound modes (apparatus simulations) that offer everything from crystal-clear sounds to bluesy crunch to high-gain distortion. One mode is dedicated to bass guitar and electro-acoustic guitar sounds. With the combo you also get access to up to 60 BOSS effects such as overdrive, distortion, modulation, delay, reverb - the combo offers three separate effects sections with three effect variations in each and six built-in memories/presets for storing your favourite settings of instrument simulations + effects.

Connect wirelessly via Bluetooth to the BOSS Tone Studio app and play along to tracks streamed from your mobile device. In the BOSS Tone Studio app, you can wirelessly control all settings from your smartphone/tablet, including features that are only available in the app. Katana-Air EX also allows you to record music to your DAW via USB, use the stereo line output with speaker emulation for live presentation in a "direct-to-PA" setup, use Katana-Air EX as a portable Bluetooth speaker for listening to music, or use YouTube support to watch videos, create playlists, loop sections, etc.

Instead of cables, all you need is a transmitter with an instrument jack and a rechargeable cell. It offers twelve hours of operation on a single charge, instantly switches to standby mode when there is no activity, and can be charged directly in the combo dock. The transmitter is also equipped with motion sensing technology that instantly wakes the combo from sleep mode in the event of activity.

The EV-1-WL Wireless MIDI Expression Pedal and FS-1-WL Wireless Footswitch control the functions assigned in the BOSS Tone Studio mobile app (controllers not included). You can use the included adapter, eight AA batteries, or the optional Roland BTY-NIMH/A battery (battery not included) to power the combo.
