The PRS HDRX guitar tube amplifiers build on the popular PRS HXDA models and offer a sound and feel inspired by British instruments from the late 1960s, including a newly documented "Authentic Hendrix" circuit based on one of Hendrix's personal instruments, whose circuitry Paul Reed Smith and PRS Amp Designer Doug Sewell had the opportunity to study in 2018.
The 50-watt HDRX 50 is powered by a pair of EL34EH end tubes, three JJ ECC803S preamp tubes, and a custom-made output transformer (Straight Edge). The controls in the form of a three-band EQ, Presence potentiometer and switches (Bright switch, High Mid Gain switch) are based on vintage designs and give players more control over the character of the sound. Two separate Lead and Bass channel volume controls (the other controls are shared) allow you to mix the ratio of the channels, ideally adjusting the sound and level of distortion to your preference.
Five external speaker outputs (1x 4, 2x 8, 1x 8, 2x 16, 16 Ohm) connect the amp to a wide range of guitar speakers (e.g. 2x 12 and 4x 12 boxes from PRS's HDRX series). The units are manufactured in Stevensville, Maryland, USA.
