The core Motion Control Synthesis Engine
The Motion Control Synthesis Engine unifies and controls two iconic sound kernels: AWM2 (with high-quality waveforms and subtractive synthesis) and FM-X (a modern form of pure frequency modulation (FM) synthesis). These two kernels can be freely zoned and layered into eight parts in a single Performance setting in the MONTAGE series of instruments.
Control MONTAGE in Performance mode with Motion Control: a highly programmable control matrix for creating deep, dynamic and wonderfully expressive sounds. With Motion Control, you can create new sounds that would not have been possible on previous hardware synthesizers.
Sophisticated dynamic control
Music is expressive. MONTAGE adds a new level of expressiveness with its Motion Control Synthesis Engine sound core. This core has a variety of methods for interactively channeling your creativity in search of your own unique sound.
Super Knob Controller
Create dynamic sound changes, from the completely radical to the completely subtle, with the Super Knob controller. The Super Knob can control several parameters at once, so the result can be anything you can imagine.
For example: change your listening position from directly behind the instrument to a position in the back row of the concert hall. Or radically change the character of the Performance setting from subtly atmospheric to distinctly rhythmic.
The Super Knob can also be assigned to a second FC7 pedal controller so you can easily manipulate the sound when you play with both hands.
Motion SEQ
Motion Sequences are tempo-synchronized, fully programmable control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any synth parameter to discover a whole new creative way to program your sound.
There are also dedicated controls on the control panel for Motion Sequences, making it very easy to change and manipulate parameters in real time, resulting in incredible interactivity and expressiveness.
Envelope Follower features
The Envelope Follower function converts audio into a controlled source for controlling almost any synth parameter. For example, a drum loop can control effect parameters for cool rhythms, or a voice recording can control various parameters for a vocoder, etc. A live real-time signal fed to the A/D input can also be used as the control audio signal.

AWM2
This is Yamaha's proprietary technology for audio compression and playback. AWM2 enables very high compression without loss of sound quality for unparalleled realistic sound reproduction.
128-voice stereo polyphony
Experience rich stereo sound without worrying about exceeding the available polyphony.
Waveform capacity
MONTAGE features nearly 10 times the waveform capacity of the MOTIF XF, allowing it to offer more samples per instrument for an incredibly realistic sound full of subtle nuances.
Built-in Flash memory
MONTAGE includes 1.75 GB of user flash memory with quick read/write access for your own samples or a library of synth sounds from the yamahasynth.com website.
FM-X

Use effects such as Beat Repeat, Vinyl Break or Bit Crusher for a modern EDM sound. You can also add a compressor for a modern sound. Or you can go in the direction of a retro sound with vintage effects such as Analog Delay, VCM Phaser or various amp simulations. Pianists will appreciate piano-focused special effects like Damper Resonance for a highly realistic piano playing experience and HD reverbs to add space to any of your performances.

USB Audio/MIDI connectivity
Connect MONTAGE to your computer with a single USB cable and record every nuance of your creativity into your DAW software. The powerful USB driver in MONTAGE can send 16 channels as a digital audio signal and receive 3 channels in stereo with 24 bit/44.1 kHz resolution. This is from/to your computer or iOS device (MONTAGE is fully compatible, no special driver needed!). So you don't even need any additional hardware devices to connect and record!
Of course, the USB connection also offers full MIDI support on 16 channels.
* MONTAGE supports sample rates up to 192 kHz.
SSS (Seamless Sound Switching)
Seamless Sound Switching (SSS), or seamless sound switching, allows you to change performance settings seamlessly without unwanted clipped effects or sound envelopes. This is great for live performances, where you finish one song and start playing the next one without a break.
* This feature is only available on performance setups that have a maximum of 8 parts.
A/D input
With the A/D input, you can pass an external audio signal through the instrument's internal DSP effects unit. Take a microphone, guitar or other line source signal, connect it and let the signal be processed by the internal effects.
You can even use this signal source for Envelope Follower or Sidechain functions for a truly unique sound.

- MONTAGE6 and 7 offer a premium semi-weighted FSX synth keyboard with pressure sensitivity (aftertouch) and a range of 61 and 76 keys, respectively.
- MONTAGE8 offers a full piano range of 88 keys, with a fully balanced Balanced Hammer (BH) keyboard with pressure sensitivity (aftertouch). This provides a natural resistance for each key on the keyboard and is ideal for playing a variety of sounds, from acoustic piano, to electric piano, to synthetic sounds, to organ and more!
LIVE SET function
The Live Set feature lets you organize your Performance settings the way you want them - without having to copy, reorder or rename them. If a particular Performance setting is selected, you can easily register it to Live Set mode. This is a great feature for live stage play, or if you just want to simply create your own organization chart for different Performance settings.
Direct Control Assignment function
The Direct Control Assignment feature assigns controllers by touching a button. Simply choose a parameter, press the Direct Control Assignment button, and move the controller you want to set that parameter with. It's that easy!
Cubase AI included
