Artisan banjos are distinguished from the "blonde" banjos of the Goodtime line by their dark stained maple neck. Specifically, the five-string Goodtime Artisan Americana model is one of the so-called open-back instruments, i.e. a banjo without a resonator with an open back plate. The wider twelve-inch maple body and twelve-inch Renaissance membrane give the instrument a less piercing but all the more warm sound with more character in the bass frequencies. This makes it a great choice of accompaniment instrument for singers. Its fingerboard is fitted with twenty-two pakfong frets, and orientation around its surface is facilitated by design position markers. The strings are mounted in high-quality Planetary-type mechanisms on one side, and in a nickel-plated steel stringer on the other side via a maple/ebony fingerboard. The visual impression is enhanced by the stylish bow-shaped headstock of the instrument with ornate Goodtime Americana engraving.
All Deering instruments (from professional models to the entry-level Goodtime line) are made in Spring Valley, California, USA by skilled craftsmen. Here, each piece is given the same care and attention to meet strict quality standards.
