The BB400 series electric basses continue the tradition of well-crafted instruments with a distinctive sound that has defined Yamaha's BB series for forty years. Their playing and sound characteristics are sure to appeal to players of all skill levels and styles.

These are electric basses of the classic Precision Bass concept. A neck made of five pieces of maple and mahogany is attached to the alder body with six screws, thanks to the stronger connection the instrument has better sustain and sound resonance. The narrower neck profile offers better playability and feel than older BB models. The rosewood fingerboard is fitted with 21 frets, orientation is made easier by white position markers. The sound is taken care of by two YDG custom pickups with Alnico magnets, i.e. one single-coil and one split-coil, with two volume potentiometers and one tone shutter for their sound correction. The vintage headstock offers a string attachment through the body or a traditional string attachment in the strings. On the other hand, the strings are mounted in open tuning machines. The instrument's lacquer finish protects the pickguard from scratches.
