This truly unique musical instrument is named after a Russian physicist and inventor. Lev Sergeyevich Termen (born15 August 1896 St-Petersburg, died 3 November 1993 Moscow). In Europe and the United States he was known as Leo Sergeyevitsch Theremin. Few people can imagine that there are entire orchestras playing, for example, Smetana's My Fatherland.
