First introduced in 1962, this guitar draws design cues from the Jazzmaster four years younger. It's hard to say whether this was a new attempt by Fender to break into jazz after the failure of the Jazzmaster, or a new type of instrument for the surf rock scene, but either way the Jaguar found a following, especially in alternative rock. Produced between 1962 and 1975, it has been back in production since 1999.
ARTIST
The Artist series offers the best of what Fender produces - these are the signature instruments of the most famous and demanding musicians, to name but a few - Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Dave Murray and Yngwie Malmsteen.
This particular model is based on the ideas of Johnny Marr, guitarist of the Smiths, Electronic, The The, Mdest Mouse, Pretenders and others.
Body and neck
The Jaguar has an asymmetrical body with a cutout below the neck and a cutaway above it, and is made of alder. Under the strings we find a pickguard. The neck is made of maple, its gauge is measured at 610 mm, it has a C profile and a polyurethane finish. The fretboard is rosewood, has a radius of 7.25 inches and features 22 Vintage Style frets.
Pickups and electronics
This guitar features two Bareknuckle single-coil pickups, which are made to Marr's specifications. The pickups are switched by a 4-position switch, there is a Bright switch, a volume control and a tone control
Hardware
The hardware is chrome and nickel plated, and on the headstock we find the typical Fender mechanics on one side. On the other side is the pickguard used on Jaguar guitars with stones from Mustang guitars, complete with a vintage style vibrato. The instruments are factory strung with Fender USA NPS 010 - 046 strings.
The Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar is a guitar suitable for anyone looking for the sound of this interesting guitarist, or just a simply interesting and very high quality instrument. This strat will surely win you over with its sound and other qualities.
